Slough Farm’s equestrian program brings Icelandic horses to our working farm on the edge of Edgartown Great Pond and South Beach. Small, sturdy, and famously gentle, Icelandic horses are one of the oldest breeds in the world and the only breed with five natural gaits. Their calm, sure-footed temperament makes them well suited to riders of all ages and experience levels, from first-timers to seasoned equestrians.

Riding at Slough Farm connects people to the land, the animals, and the rhythms of farm life. As a nonprofit educational farm, we see the horses as part of our larger mission to promote agriculture, education, health, and wellness on Martha’s Vineyard.
